Sandy Didn't Even Make It Back to the Shelter đ

Not every shelter story has to end with heartbreak!! This one ends with hope and a forever home.
Sandy arrived at the shelter on November 6th, 2024 and like so many dogs, she waited. Quietly. Patiently. Day after day. Month after month.

By the time I walked into the shelter on March 30, I didnât even know Sandyâs name. I couldnât decide which dog to take out that day, there were so many faces. So many names. So many âplease pick meâ eyes!
A volunteer looked at me and said, âSandy could really use a day out. Itâs been a while since anyoneâs taken her out on a Broward Buddies date.â I hadnât even seen her yet. But I said, âSure! Iâm sure she needs it.â
And Iâm so glad I did.
Sandy came with me to lunch that day, where I met a friend and her 3-year-old daughter. Thatâs when I realized Sandy wasnât just sweet, she was amazing with kids. Even better!!
Then something happened that none of us saw coming. A woman approached us during lunch and couldnât stop staring at Sandy.
We told her she was adoptable, and without hesitation, she said, âI think Iâm going to go get her.â She meant it.
We exchanged numbers, stayed in touch, and within three days⌠Sandy had a forever home. âĽď¸
From a shelter kennel to a real home in less than 72 hours.
These are the stories we love. The kind that keep us going. The kind that remind us why One Dog at a Time matters.
Sandyâs story is proof that even one walk, one lunch, one âwhy not?â can change everything. Not every dogâs story ends this way, but maybe the next one will.
If youâve been thinking about adopting, fostering, or just spending time with a shelter dog for the day⌠this is your sign.
And if nothing else, share her story. The more people who see whatâs possible, the more happy endings we create.
