Bread just turned 3. Instead of a cake or cuddles on the couch, he celebrated his birthday behind shelter bars.

He’s been there for almost a full year.

Bread is a Staffordshire bull terrier mix with a big smile, a bigger personality, and an even bigger heart. He was surrendered by his owner last May. The reason? “Housing issues”, the landlord wouldn’t allow him.

But honestly? I think Bread was just too much dog for them. He’s got energy. He’s playful. He’s the kind of dog who needs someone who gets that.

“Doesn’t Show Well”

If you’ve been to a shelter, you’ve probably heard that phrase before. If you haven’t—let me paint the picture.

Bread is one of those dogs who goes absolutely bonkers when he gets out of his kennel. He’s been stuck inside all day (sometimes all week), so when that gate opens, he’s READY. He’s jumping, pulling, grabbing his leash, zooming in every direction. He might seem like a lot.

But the second he’s outside? Total mush.

I sat with him in the parking lot for 20 minutes before our walk and all he wanted was to curl up in my lap. He leaned into every head scratch like he hadn’t been touched in weeks. (He probably hadn’t.)

That “crazy dog” energy you see in the kennel? That’s just a dog who’s been stuck too long without enough love or stimulation.

Bread Just Wants a Buddy

Bread would be the perfect match for someone active. Want a hiking buddy? A weekend explorer? A dog park regular? Bread is your guy. He’s silly, loyal, playful, and honestly just happy to be near you.

He’s still got a lot of puppy in him, but he’s not wild. He just needs a shot to be a dog again. Out of the cage. In the sunshine. With someone who wants to be his person.
