Left Tied to a Tree, this is Silk’s Story

Updated: Jul 21

Silk’s story begins in the shadows of betrayal.

On March 29, 2025, a 3-year-old terrier mix was found tied to a tree in the middle of the night outside the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Alone, confused, and abandoned.

When shelter staff scanned for a microchip, they were hopeful and it worked. It led them to a registered owner in Orlando. When they called, they got a story no one expected. The man explained that he had gone through a divorce, and his ex-wife had taken Silk with her to Miami. Later, she told him Silk had passed away.

That was a lie.

Instead, Silk was dumped like trash in the night, tied to a tree with no one to explain why.

The man said he’d come for Silk. He never did.The shelter called again. No answer. No rescue. No one came.

Now Silk waits.

Unlike other dogs at the shelter, Silk is kept alone in a quiet room. Not because he’s dangerous, but because he’s shutting down. Isolation was meant to help him, but instead, it's driving him deeper into distress.

When you pass by his room, he jumps up desperately, making him look like he’s “too much", but he’s not. He’s just desperate for love.

I took him out of the shelter for the day and I saw the real Silk.

He slept peacefully in the car. He soaked up affection like a sponge. He didn’t bark, act wild, or seem stressed. He just wanted to be close and loved. He thought he was a lap dog and maybe he is.

Silk is 60 pounds, neutered, and heart-worm positive, but he’s on medication and doing well. He’ll be done with treatment soon.

He’s had zero meet and greets. Zero applications. No interest. No visits. He’s being forgotten, again.

We don’t know what trauma he went through, but we know what he deserves:

🛏 A quiet, loving home.

🫶 A human who won’t walk away.

🐶 A second chance.

If you or someone you know is looking to adopt, please consider Silk.

If you can’t adopt, please share his story. You never know who might see it and say, “That’s my dog.”

📍Silk is at the Humane Society of Greater Miami. You must make an appointment to meet him as walk-ins are not allowed. Book appointment here!

Every dog deserves love that doesn’t give up on them. Let’s give that to Silk.
